All of the 'GOES' images in these galleries were created from weather satellite data supplied by
NASA - Goddard Space Flight Center. The best single source
of GOES weather satellite images, information and links is available from NASA/GSFC through a site
maintained by Dennis Chesters.
If you are handy with TIFs and would like high-resolution raw image data, you will find their
huge archive is the best on the WWW. They maintain medium and high-resolution files
in real time for the last 16 hours or so for a multitude of sectors (geographical areas).
These TIFs are not for everyone though, as they are quite large - typically 1 Meg or more.

Or, you might want to try your hand at some specialized high resolution raw satellite data
like AVHRR files from
NOAA's Satellite Active Archive,
or HDF data from
NASA's GOES/GMS 4km archive.
These files have a higher dynamic range then standard 8-bit images, so you will probably
want a program to convert them to a common format like GIF or TIF or BMP, so you can use
them with your favorite image editor.
I have written a FreeWare program
which provides quick and easy conversion of AVHRR and HDF files to either a BMP or TIF format.
For general information about other conversion programs and some great imaging tips, you
might want to try Mike Brown's page.
